Marco Guzzi Roman poet and philosopher is one of the best known popularizers of the philosophical / Christian culture as regards the spiritual themes of the 21st century. In 1999 he founded the “Groups Darsi Pace” or real and virtual meeting places for the new generations in which to develop a debate and a philosophical reflection on the deeper meaning of our existence. From 1985 to 1998 he conducted intense debates with the public of Radio RAI through the Radio, such as “ Dentro la sera ” and “ Sognando il Giorno ”. From 1985 to 2002 he directed the poetic and philosophical seminars of the Eugenio Montale International Center in Rome. Since 2008 he has been an invited professor in the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome. He has written numerous contributions that have ignited the debate on the meaning of human religiosity through a rediscovery of the deeper philosophical / existential meaning of life.
Guzzi, culturally fights the principle that moves the West: rationalistic materialism of a scientific empirical type of positivistic culture. For Guzzi the cathartic role of the personal search for the meaning of life is important and, with his work, he promotes a profound cultural and anthropological reflection to emerge from the impasse of the contemporary crisis represented by today’s materialistic absolutizing monotheism of the market. Fighting the economic vision of the immeasurable accumulation of profit at the expense of human life and the life of the planet are the objectives underlying its action.
In this scenario, philosophy remains the place of absolute resistance: it is the place of possible opposition to neo-capitalism which transforms man into a form of bargaining chip. Scientific research in contemporary society can play an important role if scientific knowledge becomes aware that technical results must marry deeply ethical values.
The problem arises from the fact that it is not possible to transmit the awareness of the results if the knowledge does not have an ethical value for the social progress of man. The values of contemporary philosophical science must be united by a thought that tends to re-evaluate objective knowledge, deduced from facts, with a simultaneous re-evaluation of the humanistic and spiritual knowledge. Science must be expressed in the humanistic values that are brought into play. In this way, science overcomes contemporary positivistic reductionism by creating the presuppositions of a new human science alongside man who embraces the values of social ethics.
Another form of Marco Guzzi’s cultural commitment is poetic research. For Guzzi poetry is a doing, a creative act which, in order to be endowed with meaning, must devote itself to communication and understanding of human values, that is, being a poet means communicating and being understood by everyone. For Guzzi poetry must be a profoundly communicative act of one’s emotions and the sense of one’s being, it is therefore important to be direct, to make oneself understood to avoid being misunderstood and isolated from the world, as happened to poets like Dino Campana, and others. become misunderstood and considered distant from reality. His poetic ideal contrasts with the hermetic current born between the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a poem difficult to understand in meaning and deliberately made incomprehensible to most. A poem with a closed ( hermetic ) character, deliberately complex, usually obtained through a succession of analogies that are difficult to interpret. Hermetic poems can hide esoteric meanings, in which the mystery of the knowledge of ethical values hides behind occult meanings. Hermetic poetry, due to the plurality of meanings that a poetic text hides, even elementary in the written form, is equally able to convey the indecipherability of reality and of one’s own perceptions. For Guzzi, on the contrary, poetry is an existential research tool on the ontological meaning of man and his existence on earth. Guzzi in his philosophical poetics uses cognitive and sapiential tools such as transcendental meditative practices of oriental flavor to reach new existential horizons. Guzzi can be defined as a visionary poet who generates complex poetic-philosophical prophecies on the future of humanity revealing an anthropological transition for a radical change of the humanistic vision where the libertarian spirit, in struggle with the old individual, closed and narcissistic war ego is tense. in search of the truth. He proposes the principles of Christian humanity such as peace, love, the full realization of the human person, a concept shared among other things by his friend and colleague, Mauro Scardovelli , psychologist founder of Unialeph , psychotherapist, musicologist, founding jurist of Libera University of Counseling with psychological and social training online. They are trans-formative paths, realized in parallel, for inner-personal-relational growth, to better understand the dynamics that inhabit the inner world of each of us; useful paths to improve the quality of human relationships by bringing dialogue and humility into interrelationships with the aim of making the aware citizen who wants to commit himself to the community grow,
In conclusion, I believe that Marco Guzzi’s poetic / philosophical research represents a difficult but necessary path to take for people in a crisis of conscience of the contemporary age, which acts through the comparison with themselves and with others, to reach deep knowledge and awareness of the human being. The poetic / philosophical research, therefore, leads us directly to the knowledge of the human being through philosophical, ontological and psychological insights.
